Molar Mass Calculator

Enter a chemical formula (e.g. H2O, C6H12O6, Ca(OH)2) to calculate its molar mass.

Adding up atomic weights, element by element

Molar mass is the sum of the atomic weights of every atom in a molecular formula, using the periodic table's standard atomic weights — water's molar mass, for instance, comes from 2 hydrogen atoms plus 1 oxygen atom.

A formula-parsing mistake to watch for

Parentheses and subscripts change the atom count significantly — the 2 in Ca(OH)₂ multiplies everything inside the parentheses. Misreading a subscript's scope is the most common source of an incorrect molar mass.
